A RECAP OF OUR ACTIVITIES IN 2024 – A YEAR OF IMPACT

As we continue to expand our impact on the communities and schools we serve, 2024 proved to be a year of innovation and growth. It was an eventful journey, filled with success stories and meaningful progress. In this blog, we share the highlights of our activities over the past year and their impact on our key beneficiaries. Join us as we reflect on an incredible year!

100 basic school students received educational Sponsorship

Last year, we expanded our basic school sponsorship program to support 100 students from seven (7) public basic schools in Nsawam. At the start of the academic year, all sponsored students received essential school supplies, including textbooks, notebooks, exercise books, school uniforms, and other educational materials. The school levies for all 100 students were also fully paid for the entire academic year. Since our inception in 2011, REAP Ghana has supported over 300 students through this sponsorship program with the aim of creating opportunities for girls from underprivileged homes to access quality basic education. We are excited about the future and look forward to forging new partnerships and gaining continued support to advance this vision.

12 Partner Schools received support through the REAP Ghana STEM Program

As part of our additional enrichment programs, we partnered with The Exploratory and the Ghana Education Service to implement a STEM program for basic schools in Nsawam. Through this initiative, 34 science teachers from 12 public basic schools received hands-on training on incorporating practical materials into STEM teaching. The program directly impacted 360 students through our weekly Science Clubs in all participating schools. The first edition of the program, which ended in May last year, culminated in an exciting Science Fair and Exhibition, where students showcased projects created using applied science concepts.

Education Sponsorship for 3 tertiary students

Last year, we awarded scholarships to three students enrolled in various tertiary institutions across Ghana. Our first recipient, Freda Amadi, is pursuing a diploma in Public Administration at the Koforidua Technical University. Additionally, Freda Ackom and Natasha Dodoo, both nursing students, received full scholarships to support their studies. Notably, all three recipients are alumni of our basic school sponsorship program, reflecting our commitment to reconnecting with past beneficiaries and providing continued support as they pursue higher education.

Our Pen Pal Program

We launched a Penpal Project connecting students from Osaebo Basic School in Ghana with their peers at Tybee Island Maritime Academy in the USA. This initiative was designed to foster cultural exchange and provide an opportunity for students to learn from each other’s unique experiences. The project aims to enhance students’ writing and literacy skills in an engaging and interactive way. Students exchanged letters on culture, food, sports and more. The program is co-facilitated by Gideon Aryeetey, our lead teacher in Ghana, and Jessica Cameron from the USA.

We look forward to another exciting year with all our stakeholders.
